Earth-protecting, positive environmental effects of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions? Necessary for the survival of the planet?

Today in Calgary, Frontier Centre for Public Policy has released Dr. Patrick Moore's document "The Positive Impact Of Human CO2 Emissions On The Survival Of Life On Earth". Dr. Patrick Moore's latest research highlights scientific literature that is often ignored in mainstream discussions about climate change policies. The opinion expressed widely in popular media is that CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels for energy are a threat to the Earth's climate and the survival of plant and human life. This paper shares a vastly different perspective, one not often offered while exploring environmental issues.

Dr. Moore shares research based on the geological history of CO2, one of the most essential nutrients for life on Earth. A lack of CO2 can lead to starvation and death of most life on the planet should levels reach those seen during periods of glaciation experienced in Earth's history. This paper serves as a discussion about the role of atmospheric CO2 in the maintenance of life on Earth and the positive role of human civilization in preventing CO2 from trending downward to levels that threaten the very existence of life.

Dr. Patrick Moore is a Senior Fellow with the Energy, Ecology and Prosperity program at the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, was co-Founder of Greenpeace and has been a leader in the international environmental field for over 40 years. He assisted Forest Alliance of BC in developing the Principles of Sustainable Forestry, which have been adopted by much of the industry. Moore authored "Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout - The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist" documenting his 15 years with Greenpeace and outlining his vision for a sustainable future.
